Reading in Style v. 12

Eli of Thrift Eye (Also - check out her awesome series on "Books into Fashion")
 Leandra of The Man Repeller

Sandy Joe of The Pretty Secrets

Sarah of Classy Girls Wear Pearls

Alexandra of Into the Woods

It's been too long since I've featured some stylish ladies (and, in this case, gents) reading, and so I present the twelfth instalment in my ongoing "Reading in Style" series.

Eli of Thrift Eye is also a librarian (!!!) has fantastic taste, and the most amazing book-inspired fashion series that is what I admit initially drew me to her blog.

Stylish New Yorker (if man-repelling), published author, and general fabulous lady, Leandra Medine really needs no introduction. If you're not already reading the Man Repeller on the regular, you should be. Good stuff, people.

Sandy-Jo of The Pretty Secrets is a fellow Canadian, an expert vintage-discoverer, and has the kind of style that always keeps you guessing - something that I think can be rare in the world of bloggers.

Sarah of Classy Girls Wear Pearls has featured in a Reading in Style post before (see here). I suppose a newspaper / flyer is less than bookish, but the written word comes in many forms, who am I to discriminate? I'm okay with periodicals too!

I stumbled upon Alexandra's blog Into the Woods via Modcloth's instagram feed (I think?) and instantly loved this post featuring pretty, feminine retro styling. Not to mention a classic book on etiquette. Books and pretty dresses are always a winning combination.

In Print: Olympia Le-Tan

It should come as a surprise to no one that I am a huge fan of Olympia Le-Tan and her beautiful book clutches. I have also enjoyed her budding foray into full fashion shows, starting with this Sound of Music inspired collection from Fall 2013. Certainly the garments can read a bit kitschy, but I admittedly love the sense of fun and whimsy that is omnipresent. Spring 2015 is no exception, and imagine my library-loving heart's delight upon seeing book printed pieces! So much yes! Even if wearing them would, quite possibly, make me look like Miss Frizzle (who is actually a fellow redhead, I might add), they are wonderful.

My official thoughts on adding these bookish beauties to my wardrobe? Yup!

Reading in Style v. 11

Allison of Always Something is the best kind of blogger friend. She shares my red hair, love of Kate Spade, books, the Maritimes, and polka dots, but she's also interesting, fun, inspiring, and has collected together a group of friends that spans a continent, that started through her online presence. I've been blessed enough to make this wonderful online friendship a real life one after a visit in Halifax, and I continue to be enriched by this lovely lady, as well as those she's introduced me to on a daily basis.
So when I spottted her photos taken with a pal in a Halifax library, I had to pinch them (with permission, of course). Because of the hilarious book title she's pointing out, and because of the cute polka-dotted dress supported by her partner-in-photo-taking-crime, Katherine.
If you're looking for a good read, or a list of links to general internet awesomeness, check out Allison's blog here. I promise you won't be sorry.

Library Stamp

It's no secret that I am a bit hopelessly smitten with anything and everything library-related, and the story is the same here. A favourite (and bookish) online shop of mine, Out of Print, is currently stocking a "Library Collection" featuring, among other things, this fantastic date-stamp tee and old-school library-card inspired tote. Officially on my wish-list? Yes and yes.

The best part? For every tee and tote purchased, Out of Print will send a book to a community in need. A surefire way to win any librarian's heart.

A Woman Above

It's no secret that I love library-themed editorials (see here, or here) since they are the combination of two of my favourite things. "A Woman Above" shot by Edgar Berg for Kenton Magazine is certainly no exception to this rule. If only all librarians actually dressed in the tartan, tweed, leather and statement necklaces featured here. It certainly gives me the impetus to up my workwear game.

Read Better Books

I recently stumbled on Belgian brand Filles à Papa via The Coveteur. Designed by a duo of sisters, Carol and Sarah Piron, their line is self-described as having been created for "girls who naturally ooze confidence" is filled with playful pieces, from stylish basic tees to sparkling skirts. I don' think it's hard to guess why this "Read Better Books" tee immediately found its way to my wishlist. Could it be a more perfect tee for a librarian / booklover? I think not. Although I suppose it could cause some awkwardness at the circulation desk.

In an ideal world I would style this wished-for tee with an edged-up traditional librarian-look. Think leather ankle boots, a in-my-dreams-only Vivienne Westwood skirt and the most perfect (albeit tragically sold out) Warby Parker cat-eye frames. Warby folk, if you ever deign to reproduce the Leith Clark x Warby Range, this spectacle-sporting librarian would be forever grateful.

Library Awesomeness

I've been a Kate Spade fan since forever - so lady-like and timeless - but I am completely enamored with the latest library inspired offerings and the adorable accompanying lookbook. Glasses and books and bookshelves are turned into prints, bags (Catalog drawer as purse? Genius!), perfect accessories (the book necklace!!!), the cutest graphic tee. It's seriously a librarian's dream come true, and so I guess it makes perfect sense that I just can't help but love each and every piece.

Reading in Style v. 6

Gabrielle of Montreal-based blog Dentelle & Fleurs is one of my recent favourites. I always love discovering Canadian bloggers, and I found her blog a few months ago and have been a loyal follower ever since. I loved this post because of her fun return to carrying books in an old fashioned way - with a leather strap (or in this case belt).

Ally of The Vintage Valley is a constant inspiration of mine. She has impeccable and just gorgeous vintage style, and the mastery of stunning retro hairdos to go with it. She popped this bookish snap into a fun post on revamping a vintage dress, and I thought it was so adorable I had to share!

Stefania of Textstyles used this photo for a giveaway a while back, but I saved it due to some fantastic spectacles and of course, the fabulous subject matter of the book in question. If you haven't checked out Stefania's fabulous street style snaps, you really should. Girl's got game.

Last but not least, this beautiful photograph shot by Sense & Sensibility blogger Candice Austen that I saved to my inspiration folder ages ago. It's a perfect mix of things I adore - libraries, mint, fantastic shades, and pretty feminine style. So much love!

On My Wishlist: ASOS Book Clutch

Once Upon a Time
Asos Book Clutches in Green, Keyhole and Coral

As much as I am utterly smitten with Olympia Le-Tan book clutches (on the "someday, somehow" wishlist), their hefty price tag has been a major obstacle for me and my humble budget. Something to save up for certainly, but in the meantime, what's a book-clutch loving librarian to do? Enter these tasseled book clutches from Asos, which I actually squealed in delight upon seeing. I think I've found my stand-ins until an Olympia Le-Tan original can be mine.

Vogue China: Mod Girls

Vogue China November 2012: 'Mod Girls'. Photographed by Camilla Ã…krans Styled by Ludivine Poiblanc with models Xiao Wen Ju, Ming Xi and So Young Kang.

I have yet to find a library themed editorial that I don't love, and this perfectly styled example from Vogue China's November issue is no exception. From peter pan collars, to pilgrim-esque sparkling loafer-heels, to buttoned shirts to tweed and print mixing, there is just no end of sartorial inspiration.

Ivy League

Flipping through the most recent edition of Flare magazine, I was immediately inspired by this bookish editorial shot by Andrew Soule. I admittedly always lean towards these types of looks every fall, there's something so appealing about cozy knits, tweeds, turtlenecks and sweaters that I always fall for no matter the over-arching fall trends - these are classic looks that I consistently go back to, and it's a look captured here exactly as I would most ideally imagine it.

Geeklandia

This Fashion Gone Rogue editorial shot by Anne Combaz and brilliantly styled by Benjamin Armand is everything I love. The light, the bookish theme, the perfectly library-chic ensembles, the spectacular spectacles, and even the vague resemblance of the model to of old photos of my mom - it is absolutely perfect.

Paper & Ink

As much as I love fashion in all its crazy forms, the nature of my job requires a professional look. Fortunately I have a bit of freedom to play within that, although admittedly finding inspiring outfits that are appropriate for the office can be a challenge. Often I stick to similar styles and combinations: blouse + skinny trousers, simple dresses and the like - but lately I feel like my work wear looks have been hit a rut.

Needless to say,  I was excited when I saw this lovely work-wear inspired lookbook from Ruche. So many possibilities, so much inspiration! And definitely falls into my oh-so-important category of being decidedly library-chic. And all this without even mentioning all of the lovely pieces which have made their way onto my ever-growing wishlist. Winning all around.
