Sunny Days

Left to Right: Dolly Polka Dot Sunnies - Mango Sunglasses - Cinema Sunglasses

The eyewear fanatic in me can't help but want to stock up on stylish sunglasses perfect for summer days. Ruche currently has the cutest (and seriously reasonable) frames, and I'm completely smitten with several pairs. But these three are my favourites - polka dotted pretties, a glamourous pink pair, and the ever-essential tortoiseshell. So good!

Inspiration: Seashells

I always seem to end up loving the seasonal lookbooks from Ruche, but this one is easily one of my absolute favourites. I think the Island girl in me can't get enough of the gorgeous seaside location and the perfectly styled ensembles in their summer lookbook, Seashells. That ship-printed dress shot to the top of my wishlist pretty much immediately.

Lot 65 x Nancy Thomas Photography - Victoria Row

Blouse & Belt: Smart Set Skinnies: Old Navy Heels: Ruche Wristlet: Coach

Victoria Row is a pedestrian-only (in summer) street in downtown Charlottetown that is filled with cute little shops and cafés, and often live music when the weather is warm. Although certainly on the spring Sunday that Nancy and I shot these photos there weren't too many folks around just yet, as it's a little early in the season for lots of activity. Still, if you find yourself on the Island this summer, I'd definitely recommend spending some time here.

I thought I'd combine the dots of these fun heels from Ruche with a sheer dotted Smart Set blouse.  Too many dots you say? Never. Polka dots have been a favourite print of mine season after season and my love for them hasn't yet lost its lustre. Keeping the colour palette black and white makes mixing prints a little easier, but a pop of red never hurt anyone. I think my love for the black-white-red colour combination stems from reading so many Babysitters Club books back in the day - and although I recall one of the babysitters wearing that combination of colours exclusively I can't remember which one. Stacey perhaps? Any former Ann M Martin fans out there who can solve that mystery for me will win my sincerest thanks.

Thanks once again to Nancy for being the most patient and lovely photographer!

Lot 65 x Nancy Thomas Photography - Peake's Wharf

Peplum Top: Ruche Dotted Heels: Ruche Jeans: Old Navy "RockStar" Skinnies

In the second of this latest series of outfit posts photographed by my friend and fellow ginger Nancy, we thought we'd head down to the waterfront of Peake's Wharf and Marina. It's a major hotspot in the summertime, but in early spring when things are all closed up it's fairly quiet. It was lucky for us because it meant that we didn't have any tourists milling around in the background, or wondering what on earth we were up to - ha!

As soon as I saw this lacy peplum from Ruche, I knew it had to be mine. It's one of my favourite colours, and combines two of my favourite details - lace and peplums. I just know that I will be wearing this beauty all spring and summer long. And who doesn't love a polka-dotted heel? I mean really. They are the best - even if so high as to be a little impractical, I admit. I still absolutely love them.

If you haven't done so already, take a peek at the rest of Nancy's work, here
I can personally attest to the fact that she's seriously the most fun to work with!

New In

Call it Spring McCurty Wedges, Valentina by Valentino eau de toilette
Forever 21 Gingham skinnies, Forever 21 Watercolour print skinnies
Forever 21 Polka Dot Shorts,  Dotted Heels via Ruche

Before I get back to regular outfit posts, I thought I'd share a few "New In" items that I've added to my wardrobe recently. I've been looking for the perfect nude heel for a while, and fell in love with the McCurdy pair from Call it Spring while I was in Ottawa, so I snapped them up on the spot, and am already wearing them with everything.

With a Forever 21 gift card in my pocket, I picked up some fantastic printed bottoms - watercolour print jeans and gingham skinnies. Not to mention some fabulous polka dot shorts that are sure to get tons of wear this spring and summer. I'm actually tempted to pair them with these dotted heels from the folks at Ruche. Too many polka dots? Never.

I'm heading out on this sunny afternoon to snap some photos for a new outfit post to share with you all. Also, new projects in the works that I also can't wait to share, so keep your eyes peeled much excitement to come in the next week or two!

Everything in Black and White

Coat: Land's End Sweater, Bracelet, Boots, Sunnies: Joe Fresh Skirt: Ruche Bag: Smart Set

Taking advantage of the mild day, I stepped outside this afternoon to snap a few photos of a skirt from Ruche in one of my favourite prints - houndstooth! I actually have a coat from Soia & Kyo in houndstooth as well as similarly printed Sorels, but for obvious reasons I considered it best not to combine every single houndstooth printed item I own in one ensemble. I got these sunglasses on sale at Joe a couple of weeks ago, and I love them! The cat-eye shape is consistently one of my very favourites and I know these will be in near constant rotation come sunnier spring and summer days.

Insta-outfit

Blouse: Ruche High-Waisted Shorts: Dorothy Perkins Necklace: Smart Set: Glasses: Fendi
Top: Forever 21 Black Skinnies: Old Navy
Top (worn purposefully backwards): Smart Set Shorts: Dorothy Perkins
An article a while back over on IFB shared how instagram can "ruin" blogs, and although I do actually love it, there are admittedly times when it's far easier to snap a phone photo and share it instantly than trekking out with my camera and tripod to capture the perfect outfit photo. It's an easy pattern to fall into, but it's true that my instagramming has swiped some potential blog content. You'll certainly still see an outfit post here or there if you follow my photo feed on instagram (@lotsixtyfive), but I'm going to make more of an effort to photograph those outfits for the blog, even if it is a little extra work! It's worth it right?

That being said, here's a few simple "insta-outfit" photos I've worn over the last little while! Look forward to a "proper" outfit post coming up this weekend!

Paper & Ink

As much as I love fashion in all its crazy forms, the nature of my job requires a professional look. Fortunately I have a bit of freedom to play within that, although admittedly finding inspiring outfits that are appropriate for the office can be a challenge. Often I stick to similar styles and combinations: blouse + skinny trousers, simple dresses and the like - but lately I feel like my work wear looks have been hit a rut.

Needless to say,  I was excited when I saw this lovely work-wear inspired lookbook from Ruche. So many possibilities, so much inspiration! And definitely falls into my oh-so-important category of being decidedly library-chic. And all this without even mentioning all of the lovely pieces which have made their way onto my ever-growing wishlist. Winning all around.

Literary Enchantment

I've been a die-hard fan of Ruche for ages, and it seems that lately their lookbooks are getting lovelier than ever. I know I generally add almost every look to my ever-growing wishlist.  Their latest creation, Enchantment (released Monday), continues along on the inspirationally pretty path of lookbooks past.

My very favourite shots were those featuring  not only beautiful styles but also a classic old hardcover collection of plays by Henrik Ibsen, so of course I had to share.

Lovely and literary? Yes please!

Cherished

I have yet to see a lookbook from Ruche that I don't like - they are consistently lovely, but the most recent is a favourite of mine largely due to the beautiful setting. I love the look of old weathered wood on ramshackle houses, as those of you who've been following for a while may already know.

I also find myself loving any lookbook that prominently features beautiful natural settings, and Cherished certainly did not disappoint. I don't know where they were taken, but the idyllic woods and meadows seemed like a fashion blogger's paradise. Makes me think I should head to the Gatineau Hills for an outfit shoot sometime (much like the lovely Justyna did) to recreate the feeling in these photos.

I will say that many of the showcased pieces have already found their way onto my wishlist for pretty winter wear. I am trying to rebuild my sadly lacking winter wardrobe and many of these would certainly be a lovely start.

I must admit I am also in love with the hairstyles here - does anyone know how to re-create these looks? Want to make me a tutorial? Please? Would love to figure out how to do my own hair that way, but since I'm still growing it out it's a bit tricky.

The lookbook's accompanying video is also lovely to watch - take a peek and see what you think.

This Ruche lookbook has certainly found itself saved in my inspiration file  What's inspiring you lately?
