It's hard to believe we're almost at the end of June. I for one am extremely, unbelieveably excited and it's not just because of the upcoming Canada Day festivities. If you've looked at my sidebar countdown lately, you'll have noticed that my upcoming trip to Switzerland is almost upon me, I fly out a week from today! This has pretty much become my constant state of being.

But to keep me distracted, I've been planning Canada Day festivities with my lovely sister and her family, much of which will be spent in and on the Bay of Quinte, so I thought I'd share a few of my essentials for a fabulous Canada Day weekend beach bag.

Due to the typical Canada Day crowds and heat, I plan to keep it simple with a basic tote, a pair of comfy dark denim jean shorts and a (subtly) festive tank top. With swimming in the mix, a low-key surf-spritzed hairstyle is a must.  And if I'm doing lots of walking around and enjoying the sunshine, comfortable but cute shoes are key, as is lots of water (hydration!), sunglasses and, most importantly sunscreen to protect my pasty skin. Last but not least? A nod to my east coast home - a lobster-printed one piece suit, ideal for swims in the lake.

What are your long weekend essentials?

Canada Day

Canada Day

Canada Day has always been one of my favourite holidays, even if our celebrations mainly consist of simple things - days at the beach with my family, strawberry shortcake, traipsing down to the waterfront to watch the fireworks fly high above the water.

I spent my last Canada Day celebrating on Parliament Hill with Will, Kate, and thousands of others, and as fun as that was, I am admittedly glad to be back to the quiet, but happy pace of Prince Edward Island. Immediately following this post? I will be heading to the cottage and the seahore to spend the day with my family on this beautiful summer day, and that's just the way I like it.

Happy Canada Day Everyone!
