Reading in Style v.4: Dress Me Dearly

Janis of Edmonton style blog Dress Me Dearly appeared in one of my first Reading in Style posts, but when I saw this adorable video on her blog which starts out with a visit to the public library, I knew I absolutely must share it with you all.

Dress Me Dearly is one of my favourite Canadian fashion blogs (If you haven't already checked it out, I suggest you do, and soon!), and in addition to her impeccable taste in fashion, I love that Janis shares my love for books and libraries. To go along with sharing her video, I thought I'd also  ask Janis to share a few thoughts on books, reading, and of course, her take on library-chic.

1. What's your favourite book?

J: I don't think I can name just one. Rule of the Bone by Russell Banks has been a longtime favourite. I stumbled across it at the used bookstore where I worked when I was 16. I have that same copy today.

Another favourite is The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck which is full of incredible quotes:

"There was only this perfect sympathy of movement, of turning this earth of theirs over and over to the sun, this earth which formed their home and fed their bodies and made their gods...Some time, in some age, bodies of men and women had been buried there, houses had stood there, had fallen, and gone back into the earth. So would also their house, some time, return into the earth, their bodies also. Each had his turn at this earth."

2. Do you have a favourite spot to curl up with a good book? Coffee Shop? Comfy Chair?

J: Curled up on my couch on a sunny morning or afternoon with a cup of coffee and a book or magazine are rare, but cherished moments to me. I also love reading on the bus. I read to and from work on my daily transit, and with my busy schedule that's where most of my reading is accomplished.

3. What's your idea of the perfect bookish ensemble?:

J: I live for this style and consider myself a librarian at heart: A peter-pan collared shirt layered under a well fitted blazer, tucked in neatly to a high waisted a-line skirt. Some cat-eye frames to top it all off.

Thanks so much Janis! I hope you enjoy her library-chic video as much as I did!
