Music Monday - La Francophonie

It's been a little while since my last music monday post, and this one will be a little different. Normally, I do a feature on one band or singer who I enjoy, but this time, I have a few songs to share from different artists. In particular, lately I have found that I have been listening almost non-stop to a number of French songs, and so I decided to share three of the ones that have been in near constant rotation on my itunes.

First up is 4 mots sur un piano, by Patrick Fiori. I have loved this song for a long time, although it is quite sad. In the past few weeks I've been listening to it more and more and only just found this video of it, which to me suits the song perfectly.

Secondly is a song that I have only recently discovered by Carla Bruni. I think it is beautiful, but this video of her singing it is lovely as well, I found it inspiring in its simplicity.

And lastly, a wonderful Canadian artist, Coeur du Pirate, based out of Montreal. This is probably my favourite song of hers, although for some reason youtube wouldn't let me embed the official video, so here is a live performance from CBC's show, Q. You'll have to put up with a short intro and a few questions from the host, Jian Ghomeshi, but she gives a lovely performance of this pretty song.

There is just something about French music (and also Italian, but I'll save that for another day) which I find so much prettier and special than English songs, I'm not sure why. In any case, I hope even if you don't speak the language that you can appreciate these melodies.

What are you listening to lately?
