One Last Look

This morning I fly out of Ottawa, heading home to Prince Edward Island for good! Although I very much look forward to seeing the ocean, spending time with family and starting an exciting new job, as well as a possible Maritime blogger meet-up, I am leaving behind a lot here in Ottawa.

There's a wonderful group of friends, an amazingly lovely group of co-workers, a beautiful library (see my snaps above taken when working at our main branch last Thursday night!) and a wonderful city full of great activities to say good-bye to, but there will be lots of reunions with my family and friends back home, so the departure is bittersweet.

More good news? My next post will be coming to you live from Prince Edward Island!

Fieldguided Inspiration

I don't know if all of you are familiar the Toronto-based site Fieldguided by Anabela Carneiro, but it is a stunner of a blog filled with beautiful thoughts and photography, and is a constant source of inspiration for me.

Most recently, Anabela (and Geoff Peirsol) photographed a gorgeous lookbook for spring from Scout and Catalogue, which has since found itself immediately saved into my inspiration folder.

Although in some cases I find a mish-mash of juxtaposed pictures confusing, in this case I think it is perfectly done, dream-like and simply lovely.

Fantastic Flying Books

With the Academy Awards coming up in a few short weeks, I thought I would share this beautiful animated film that has found itself nominated for an Oscar: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Of course the book lover in me was instantly intrigued, but it truly is a beautiful little film. I'm definitely hoping it'll get the win! It isn't long, just fifteen minutes or so, and trust me - it is worth every moment.

Bright and Beautiful

Although I love the cozy layers that go along with winter dressing, one thing I haven't been loving lately is the cold, grey, slushy weather we've been having lately. I don't know about you, but once Christmas has passed I am very much ready to have winter over with. I guess it makes sense then, that I'm drawn to the brightest possible crazy mixture of prints and patterns.

This editorial from Elle Greece (via Fashion Gone Rogue) shot by Dimitris Skoulos and featuring Natalia Zakharova is, in my opinion, was the perfect thing to pull me out of my winter fashion doldrums. Stylist Eirini Vassou pulled out all of the stops with beautiful bright pieces from designers like Missoni, Prada, Blumarine and more to make one of the best print-mixing stories I've seen in a while.

Staying Alert

Those of us complaining about the awful weather and cold winter days really have little to worry about compared to some. A lovely friend of mine, Kristy (of My Heart Stumbles) is currently documenting her daily adventures living in the very northernmost tip of Canada - Alert, Nunavut; which incidentally is also the northernmost permanently inhabited place in the world.

In spite of weeks of total darkness and unthinkably cold temperatures, she has been posting the most beautiful photos (think great experiments with low-light photography) and sharing the ups and downs of living in such an isolated area with the utmost positivity and charm.

You really should pop over to her blog, North of 60 (although actually she’s even north of the 80th parallel) and take a peek at a part of the world that very few people ever get to see.

From adventures ice-fishing on New Year's eve to encounters with curious arctic wolves, to glimpses of the long unseen sun, each post on North of 60 shares a new adventure experienced by this truly kind and talented lady.

Go ahead : pay her blog a visit and leave her an encouraging note or two. Wouldn’t you want a friendly hello if you were living in darkness and isolation? Yeah, I thought so.

Music Monday - Chasin' Lonely Again

There are so many reasons I had to share this tune. Firstly, it's by a super talented Island singer, Meaghan Blanchard. Secondly, it was filmed by a fellow I went to high school with - Neal Gillis, who works for UPEI and has recently started Campus Sessions. It's a seriously good video series featuring local musicians and bands performing in various locations around the UPEI campus (They are all well worth watching, by the way). But best of all? This tune was filmed in the Robertson Library. The Library! I love it, of course.

I think the longer I'm a Librarian the more I gravitate towards what fall into traditionally library-esque styles. The latest example on my wishlist? The cardigan clip. I've been adding pretty and unique vintage ones to my ever-growing Etsy wishlist for ages, not to mention this lovely version from Ruche. Famously sported by the always lovely fellow ginger Emma Pillsbury, they are right up there with vintage style cat-eye glasses on my list of librarian must-haves.

This lookbook featuring the debut collection from Ulyana Sergeenko for F/W 2011 has been sitting in my inspiration folder ever since I spotted it featured via Miss Moss. From there I checked out the full collection thanks to Vogue.ru and was instantly enamoured with the beautifully elegant garments and impeccable styling. In spite of the fact that it's been posted around a few blogs here and there, I wanted to share it here because it's just too good not to.

If Fall and Winter looked this good, I'm excited to see what Ms. Sergeenko will offer come spring.

To the Island

The breaking news in my world today is that I will be heading home to my beloved Island in the next few weeks to embark on a new job and have many new adventures. I will be sad to leave Ottawa behind, I have so many wonderful friendships here (hopefully those lovely people - you know who you are - will come visit. Hint hint!), but I am excited to spend time with friends and family at home too.

Here's to coming home, and to new beginnings!

Hungry Girls

Most people who know me well know that there is not much I love more than thumbing through the pages of heaps and piles of cookbooks to discover tasty new recipes. I came across a series of hand sewn, beautiful illustrated and photographed series of cookbooks self-published by a group of girl friends in Australia and was instantly smitten with "The Hungry Girls"

Not only do I like pretty cookbooks, but I also really love the idea of three friends with a shared passion for food, photography and illustration coming together to produce such beautiful little tomes. It also doesn't hurt that the recipes inside are delicious sounding things like Yoghurt and White Chocolate Panna Cotta, Winter Veggie Pasties or Rainbow Chard and Ricotta Filo Pie.

I definitely plan on gradually adding all three volumes of the Hungry Girls cookbook series to my cookery library, but until then, I'm satisfied to take a sneak peek at more recipes on their blog.

Fat Cat

I think I need to start saving some pennies up for this integral part of my new librarian-uniform. Next on the list - the perfect tweed blazer with velvet elbow patches.

I know what you're thinking - two posts in one day? Seems like a lot for me, I know. But when my lovely friend Catie shared the news that Taylor Swift had done a surprise performance with my very favourite musical ensemble, The Civil Wars.

Add into the mix that it is a song from the soundtrack of The Hunger Games, and I love it even more. I read all of the books as soon as I could get my hands on them and am beyond ridiculously excited for the movie which comes out SOON! Plus, it is actually a really lovely, very pretty song - so have a listen!

Lemon Fresh

Anyone who knows me (or my shopping habits) well knows that a large percentage of my wardrobe comes from Canadian fast-fashion label Joe Fresh, and so when the folks at Flare posted a sneak peek at the soon-to-be-rolled-out Spring Collection, I had to share.

Once Christmas and New Year's have come and gone I start feeling ready for spring to hurry up and arrive, already. These bright happy pieces from the gang at Joe Fresh have definitely brightened up an otherwise dreary winter day.

I don't know if I'll dress in head to toe citrus-y lemon yellow (although I will note that lemon was far from the only colour on the Joe S/S '12 runway) come spring, but there are definitely a few pieces from this glimpse of the spring line on my radar. Namely the classic blouses with snazzy colourful collars, maxi skirts, and hopefully the adorable striped dress above.

If this preview is any indication, I'd say spring at Joe Fresh will be looking pretty darn good.

Wu-hoo

Although Target is finally coming to Canada (and to Ontario first, no less!), this Jason Wu x Target collaboration will not be. I guess I will have to rely on shopping vicariously through American friends (hint hint?) because although I do like pretty much everything, there are a couple of items that I would really REALLY like to have.

That's right, you guessed it - the cat bag and cat scarf. I may not actually OWN a real cat (trying to avoid the single librarian cat-lady stereotype) but I do enjoy cat-emblazoned items and have started a bit of a collection (including this fantastic scarf). So obviously the above tote bag and scarf HAD to be on my must-have list from the Jason Wu x Target collab. I do like the rest of the pieces but they don't seem to me to be as covetable as the Rodarte line was, for example. I think it'd be pretty easy to find comparable looks and items elsewhere, but those cat accessories shall be mine.

Any US ladies want to help a Canadian blogger out? Seriously? Let me know. I would love you forever.

Music Monday: Trickle Down Rain

I've been meaning to share some songs by Catherine MacLellan for a while now. She's a singer-songwriter from PEI, although she is now based out of Halifax. I already love the songs in these videos, entitled "Trickle Down Rain" and "Now and Then", but I love the fact that they were filmed by a talented Island filmmaker and filmed in one of my favourite Charlottetown haunts (Green Man Vintage and Vinyl) even more.

This stunning editorial from Vogue Russia featuring Canadian model Meghan Collison is blowing my mind. Styled by the genius stylist (and editor) Katie Shillingford and shot by Ben Toms, it essentially exudes exactly the feeling that I love right now - sparkling mod glamour? A total win in my books.

Aside from the gorgeous clothes from the likes of Prada, Miu Miu and Agent Provocateur, I couldn't help but gush over the glasses (of all things)! I have been wanting to add cat-eye frames to my everyday-glasses-look and I have to say, I'm pretty much coveting every pair from this shoot, no question. And accompanied by fabulously glamourous retro hairstyles? You can't go wrong.

RIng in the New

Although I am admittedly being a bit of a homebody for New Year's festivities this evening, I thought I'd take Nina's advice and put together some idealized inspiration (LOTS of sparkle, you hear?) for a fabulous NYE ensemble (or two). These dresses by one of my favourite designers, Malene Birger, are exactly what I'd want to put on if I was heading out for a night on the town this New Year's instead of my actual quiet night in.

I've gotta say 2011, you've been a pretty swell year. Great job, fun city to live in, fabulous friends - what more could a girl ask for? Although I know much more goodness awaits in 2012, so bring on the New Year!

Pretty Books

Although the tiny space of my current bachelor apartment doesn't allow for a lot of space for storage of any kind, let alone enough to house any of my numerous books (most of which are currently hiding in a certain PEI basement - thanks Mom & Dad), the perfect home library space is something that this librarian has been dreaming of for ages - makes sense right? Especially when you see cozy and pretty spaces such as the one above, or any of these or these, it's hard not to daydream a little.

Everyman's Pocket Poetry

Until I'm more settled and have my own space to finally set up a cozy home reading space, I'm content to simply purchase those items which will fill my shelves - the pretty books! I do find that books have become a bit of a design tool only - with etsy shops selling stacks of "vintage books", or designers using colourful books to provide a certain type of look that someone wants on their shelves. Personally, although I do love the aesthetic value of a book, but I also definitely want my own collection to contain items I actually am interested to read.

Penguin Hardcover Classics

Luckily for people like me, a few different publishers are coming out with some seriously lovely looking books that also have content which a former English major and current Librarian like me will want to read and re-read. Beautiful AND smart? Yes please.

Vintage 21 - Random House

Although I have yet to add any of these lovely little tomes to my ever-growing collection of books, many of these titles would make great additions to my eventual home library, in addition to filling out my future bookshelves quite nicely.

A couple of years ago I sang in a choir, and at Christmas-time we performed Handel's Messiah, which I loved. This is one of the most beautiful pieces that I utterly enjoyed singing, and it continues to be one of my favourites from the whole of the Messiah.

Today I am happily at home celebrating with my family, watching my sweet niece and nephew enjoy Christmas (aren't the holidays always happier with children about?) and revelling in how wonderful it is to be home on my beloved Island.

On such a festive day I thought I would take a chance to share a few of my favourite Christmas tunes and some of my Christmas-y inspiration with all of you.

I have listened to this tune sung by Nana Mouskouri every year since I can remember at Christmas, it is most definitely a favourite carol at our house.

I plan to spend the afternoon reading new books to my nephew, watching my favourite Christmas movie - The Muppet Christmas Carol, playing some carols on the piano and hopefully working on a puzzle with my family while sipping peppermint tea and hot chocolate.

Where The Heart Is

I'm leaving Ottawa today to head home to my beloved Prince Edward Island where my heart is happiest, and where family and friends will be waiting. I can't wait to settle in, sit by the fire, and share the joy of the Christmas season with my parents, my sisters and most especially my sweet niece and nephew who will be smothered in hugs the whole time I'm home, to be sure.

For those of you who are also travelling over the roads or through the air - I wish you all a safe journey! And to everyone else? I hope you have a wonderfully happy holiday weekend.

Christmas Dress

I may be one of the only ones who puts together an outfit for the annual Christmas church service, but in my family we make a tradition of going to a service either on Christmas Eve, or this year, Christmas day. I like to be festive for the holiday (hence my red dress and green bag) but also keep things relatively simple and modest. Here is what I plan on wearing this weekend - most of these items (save the lanvin pearl cuff and the 3.1 Phillip Lim bag), or similar ones are already in my wardrobe, so I'll be packing them in my suitcase when I head off to PEI on Friday in preparation for the celebration.

Glacial Glamour

I subscribe to a number of fashion magazines, most of which are Canadian and one of my favourites is Flare, not just for the fact that it often showcases great Canadian style and designers, but also for some consistently great editorials, but this one from their December issue has been one of the best, in my opinion.

This wintry spread featured Korean model Hyoni Kang shot by Chris Nicholls, and styled by Flare's Fashion Director Elizabeth Cabral. There is just something so striking about these looks, even more so when juxtaposed on the sublime beauty of the mountain range - lovely.

Some of my favourite pieces from Fall 2011 were styled into the shoot - including the gorgeous plaid Thakoon parka that made my fantasy-wishlist as soon as it walked the runway, along with one of the gowns from Rodarte's prairie-inspired collection.

All that being said, I have to admit that I'm a bit of a sucker for horses featured in editorials, or just anywhere - they are so beautiful! And one of my favourite animals (other than manatees), so of course I had to share.

In other news? One week from today I will be home on PEI for the holidays! The countdown is on!

Christmas Pins

As Christmas draws nearer, I thought I might share a few of the Christmas-y images that have been inspiring me of late. I tend to be drawn to old-fashioned and traditional decorations rather than glitzy modern ones - although I admit a little sparkle goes a long way for this girl!

Those of you following me on Pinterest may have seen a few of these images before (and you can see the rest here), but hopefully you can forgive me re-posting them here. My apartment is extremely sparse as far as decorations go (I plead the excuse that I will be travelling home to PEI next week for the holidays), but if I was decorating for the holidays here in Ottawa, these would be a few of the decorations I'd hope to deck my humble halls with.

Music Monday: A Boney M Christmas

I feel like every family has traditional Christmas music that they listen to over the holidays, and so I thought over the weeks leading up to Christmas I would share mine. The above song is from Boney M's Christmas album, which I fondly recall listening to with my family every year. It's a bit cheesy, but also fabulous. What was more wonderful was discovering this ridiculous but awesome video for one of their Christmas classics, Mary's Boy Child.

I've got to give some props to my friend Catie who was crucial in the discovery of this video, and also a part of the inspiration to share with you all, after she so kindly posted it on my fb wall.

I am always delighted to see this hometown girl featured anywhere from the runways in Ottawa, Toronto, or New York City to editorials and more - She is a total beauty whose star is most definitely still on the rise.

L'Infinito

It's been a while since one of my more decidedly book-related posts, but whenI discovered the amazing art of Philip Smith via a post by Elle Magazine on exceptional design of all kinds (worth checking out, by the way), I knew I had to share it. As soon as I saw the beautiful book cover they showcased, I had to learn more and immediately sought out his website, where I eagerly flipped through the images of his amazing creations.

Six Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm

I really can't get over the amazing detail - every inch has something special and interesting to look at, be it a texture, colour, or picture within a picture. Each cover is such an interesting (not to mention beautiful) representation of the story found within its pages.

Finnigan's Wake

At the library I work at, we actually have our own bindery where a number of the volumes that are included in our collection are made by hand. When I started here, I took a tour of the bindery where our bookbinders showed us and told us about their process - from the unique papers and leathers that make up the binding to the gold leaf letters hand-pressed onto the spine of each volume. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed. After that experience, I can only imagine the expert hand and time it must have taken to bring each of these beautiful bindings to life.

Fair Isle

I've always associated the Fair Isle (or in this case Fair Isle inspired) sweater with winter - with sleigh rides, ski hills, hot chocolate and cozy nights by the fire. I'm not sure if that's what the folk who have been knitting these beauties for centuries had in mind for their sweaters, but I like to think so.

The traditional Fair Isle style has been cropping up more than usual lately, perhaps brought back to the forefront by D&G's wintry wonderland of a Fall 2010 collection. If the designer versions are your cup of tea, you can find a good selection here, but I for one am happy to find that my go-to shop, Joe Fresh has a number of Fair Isle-inspired sweaters among their offerings for winter (my choice? Probably the red one, left). I'm looking forward to picking one up and wearing it while sipping cocoa by the fireplace at home over the holidays.

Show a Little Love

Not too long ago the lovely Leah of Little Red Purse featured Lot 65 along with a few other blogs who all have a smaller following but were, as she kindly thought, worth checking out. Although I appreciate (but tend not to pass on) blog awards, I do think this kind of showing support for fellow bloggers in an online community plays a big part of what motivates me to continue to enjoy blogging so much. Based on Leah's lovely feature, I was inspired to share a few of my favourite Canadian blogs that you may not have discovered yet that are well worth a follow.

First among these is obviously Leah herself! I first came across her blog after she left the sweetest comment on one of my posts about resolutions for the year, and I'm so glad I did. She posts on personal style - although since she's getting married in a few short months you'll find some wedding inspired posts on her blog as well. I sadly didn't get the chance to meet her at LG Fashion week this fall, but hoping to next time round - she is a total sweetheart! Leah and I have actually traded buttons for the month too - be sure to check her out!

Danielle of Denj is a name you may have come across before (particularly here during my most recent giveaway!). Not only does this lovely lady have impeccable style, but she also makes absolutely beautiful silk scarves and bracelets. I have one already (with another on order!) and get constant compliments whenever I wear it (check out her shop here). We had a brief chat when I was last in Toronto and I can tell you - she is lovely! Hoping that she Leah and I can have a blogger shopping trip next time I'm in town.

Sarah of Girl Crush is based in Vancouver although she's a transplant from here in Ontario. I discovered her blog through Danielle of Denj and totally relate to her classically pretty aesthetic. In addition to discovering Sarah's personal style- you'll also find her favourite recipes, which the baker in me definitely enjoys too! Take a look, you won't be disappointed.

You may remember Kristin of Doll Parade from her guest post that she contributed while I was sunning myself on the shores of North Carolina this past spring. She's a fellow Maritimer and is one of a growing number of fantastic bloggers based out of New Brunswick. She has a fantastic and constantly inspiring fashion sense, and in addition to sharing her personal style incorporates beautifully photographed details of her daily life into Love Chronicles each week - a favourite feature of mine.

Moving back out west, I have to mention Ashley of Lions Lace Lattes. Not only is she seriously smart (Psych and neuroscience anyone?), but she also happens to have a fabulous sense of style, and frequently showcases the beauty of a province I (sadly) have never seen in magnificent settings for her photos.

Last but certainly not least on my list of blogs worth checking out is another New Brunswick blogger who I've relatively recently discovered (via her friends Kristin and Kate), Candice of Brilliant Sugar. She's new to the blogging scene, but even since her debut has consistently been one of my favourite reads. This is partly due to her simple but always chic style, but also due to her decidedly yummy recipes that she frequently shares. One I definitely want to try? These tasty-looking cupcakes!

The Cult of Beauty

I haven't picked up my copy of Vogue's December issue, but I keep seeing this editorial featuring actress Saoirse Ronan (whose talents I am a major fan of) and it is absolutely breathtaking. To the point that I will be snapping up a copy of the magazine just to pull out these photos.

The Pre-Raphaelite inspired styling, the wild red hair, the ethereal beauty, the feeling of the photographs - all make for a mesmerizing story featuring this lovely young actress. And a little nod to Shakespeare's Ophelia (in the photo - above, right) is right up this nerdy English major's alley.

This shoot by Steven Meisel is easily one of my favourite editorial spreads of 2011. Simply gorgeous - and the type of fashion-as-art kind of photographs I would gladly hang on my walls. Beauty.

Music Monday - The Fox

I can't believe it took me this long, but I first heard the Nickel Creek version of "The Fox" while listening to this (seriously good) mix on 8tracks the other day. I totally fell in love with it mostly because it's a song that has been sung at probably every single family party I have ever gone to.

My uncles are all excellent singers and they sing a fabulously harmonized rendition of this tune whenever a bunch of us get together. Nickel Creek's version with some awesome mandolin playing is pretty great as well though, so of course I had to share with you all!

She Comes in Colour

In my wanderings through the many blogs I follow I often discover new shops, collections, inspiring images and in some cases, artists. I find myself very much drawn to watercolour of late, perhaps because it is the one paint medium that I could just never get right so my admiration for those who can is great. Liss' blog Daydream Lily is a constant source of inspiring finds for me (if you haven't seen it, you should check it out), and in one of her recent posts I discovered Australian artist Emma Leonard, whose dreamy ink and watercolour illustrations are absolutely lovely.

I took a peek in her shop and found a number of prints I would like to eventually add to the growing collection of art (mostly yet-to-be-framed) piling up in my apartment. A Tale of Two Coats

So the story is that I am on the hunt for a new winter coat. I have a lovely long houndstooth print coat from Soïa and Kyo that I absolutely love, but it is a little dressy for every day. So when I stumbled upon these two coats by BB Dakota I was smitten. I love bright colours, especially in long Canadian winters when the weather is so cold, drab and grey. Happily for me, both of these colourful coats fall into the price range I was hoping for - but not so happily, I can't decide which one I like best!

Mustard yellow and emerald green are consistently two of my favourite colours to wear at any time of year but particularly when the frosty winds of winter are blowing. I like the simple, military-esque feeling of the style of the gold coat, but the easy simple style of the green coat makes me feel like it would go with a lot... but I can't justify getting both, at least not at the moment.

Help me decide! Green or Gold? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I don't know if any of you have seen the series of Closet Visits (if not check them out here), but it is full of seriously inspiring women and wardrobes. A little bit like "The Coveteur" in that it profiles the wardrobes of stylish folk,but with a more dreamy and Lula-esque tinge (which I appreciate a little more).

In any case, I stumbled upon their second Closet Visit video, Matilde and found it so inspiring and lovely that I had to share. It combines a number of my favourite things, namely - the woods, fancy dresses, sparkle, pretty colours, and - perhaps best of all, a fantastically lovely tea party. Watch and enjoy.

I have yet to see a lookbook from Ruche that I don't like - they are consistently lovely, but the most recent is a favourite of mine largely due to the beautiful setting. I love the look of old weathered wood on ramshackle houses, as those of you who've been following for a while may already know.

I also find myself loving any lookbook that prominently features beautiful natural settings, and Cherished certainly did not disappoint. I don't know where they were taken, but the idyllic woods and meadows seemed like a fashion blogger's paradise. Makes me think I should head to the Gatineau Hills for an outfit shoot sometime (much like the lovely Justyna did) to recreate the feeling in these photos.

I will say that many of the showcased pieces have already found their way onto my wishlist for pretty winter wear. I am trying to rebuild my sadly lacking winter wardrobe and many of these would certainly be a lovely start.

I must admit I am also in love with the hairstyles here - does anyone know how to re-create these looks? Want to make me a tutorial? Please? Would love to figure out how to do my own hair that way, but since I'm still growing it out it's a bit tricky.

The Sisters Fanning

I have to say, it's pretty easy to see why both Elle and Dakota Fanning are the muses and darlings of the fashion world in this editorial from W's December issue. Although I am not a usual reader of that particular magazine, when I heard these two were featured in an editorial in the newest issue, I will admit my attention was piqued.

I took a peek at the spread shot by Mario Sorrenti via Fashion Gone Rogue and found it to be utterly inspired and lovely - beautifully styled while still keeping the look age appropriate for these two young ladies. I may just have to pick up a copy of W's December issue so I can add this spread to my ever-growing inspiration folder (currently stuffed to the brim with magazine tear-outs).

Music Monday - Paris Green

A lovely lady and fellow English major at in my undergrad shared this song by Edmonton artist Jessica Jalbert with me. Not only did I really enjoy the song but I also love the way this video alternates between a number of totally beautiful natural settings. I love discovering new musicians and bands, so thanks to Miss 'Franny' for the introduction!

LGFW: Golnaz Ashtiani & Caitlin Power

Long overdue is this last post on the final two shows I saw presented at LG Fashion Week - those from Golnaz Ashtiani and Caitlin Power. I wasn't initially going to see these two, but the lovely Nikkita from Queen West Style and I got to chatting and it turned out she had a plus one but her husband who had meant to come with her was unexpectedly called into work so she offered me what would have been his ticket. Since I had a couple of hours to kill before my train, I gladly accepted and was excited to see what to previously unknown-to-me designers would present.

First up out of the double-header of shows was from Golnaz Ashtiani. Citing Roman Holiday as inspiration for the collection as a whole, there was a soft colour palette (soft purple, lime, grey-blue, cream ) as well as some colour blocking (I loved the blazer with peach lapels and cuffs), lots of pleated details and some seriously pretty draped dresses.

I could very easily picture myself happily wearing many of the pieces that walked the runway. A very feminine and well tailored collection of separates definitely cemented Ms. Ashtiani in my mind as a designer to watch. You can see the rest of my photos of the collection on the Lot 65 fb page, as well as some better ones via Fashion mag (well worth a look!).

The second show featured an LGFW debut for Caitlin Power, an up-and-coming designer based out of Toronto, although I believe she is originally from Alberta (Calgary, confirms Ashley). In any case, based on her list of sci-fi inspirations including Blade Runner and Star Trek, I was definitely intrigued as to what sorts of garments would stroll the runway.

I can honestly say I was extremely impressed at the quality of the tailoring, and the futuristic but totally wearable aesthetic. She had a number of blouses that I absolutely adored, my favourite being the one pictured above - the orange detailing? Genius. I loved it, and I certainly wasn't the only one who did - I think it was particular favourite of many. In addition to some seriously fantastic separates, there were some sexy dresses and a jumpsuit that I (who generally avoid one-pieces at all costs) actually liked. I have to say, overall, that this was an excellent first showing at LG Fashion week for Caitlin Power.

Getting to see two extra shows (thanks again Nikkita!) was a fabulous way to close of my second day in Toronto, and these two will definitely be on my must-see list if they show in Toronto next season.

Wrapped in Words

Okay, I'll admit it. Sometimes I search on Etsy specifically for items that are book or library themed. Yup, that's how cool I really am! But sometimes it pays off - seriously. For instance, I recently stumbled upon these literature embossed cuffs from Jezebel Charms.

If you can't already tell whey I love them, I'll tell you. Firstly, they actually look really great and I can easily picture incorporating them into my outfits. Secondly, almost every literary work I love from Austen to Shakespeare to the Brontë sisters and then some are available in the shop, so the fancy of my former English major self is definitely tickled. And last, but certainly not least, every librarian needs at least one (but preferably more) book-themed accessories. Right? Okay maybe not, but this one definitely does.

Needless to say, these word-wrapped cuffs have wormed their way right onto my ever-growing Etsy wishlist, and hopefully sooner rather than later at least one of these will be found warming my wrist with their inspiring words.

Five Weeks of Favourites Grand Finale - Denj

When I initially planned the Five Weeks of Favourites giveaways to celebrate the relaunch of the blog as Lot 65, I knew I wanted to include a beautiful scarf made by the fabulous Danielle. If you don't already know her, she is the talented blogger behind Denj (trust me, you'll want to follow along!), as well as the artist behind the etsy shop of the same name, where she sells hand-dyed silk scarves and bracelets that are oh-so-lovely.

Music Monday - Milo Greene

On Saturday I travelled to Montreal with two good friends to check out one of my absolute favourite musical duos and previous Music Monday feature, The Civil Wars. But an extremely pleasant surprise to the entire audience was the opening act, Milo Greene, a band based out of Los Angeles.They had a folky-vibe, with some great harmonies and an impressive ability to switch back and forth between instruments (one song in particular featured the most enthusiastic playing of the jingle bells that I have ever heard - hilariously awesome).

They had a fantastic energy on stage and before long everyone (myself included) was clapping along and interacting with this group - to the point that when they finished their set the crowd was on its feet and sent the members of Milo Greene off with a well-earned standing ovation.

I'd never seen such an enthusiastic response to an opening in any past concert I'd been to, but these guys totally deserved it - they put on a fabulous show. Most of the audience headed out at the break (before The Civil Wars began their set) to purchase a cd. I grabbed mine at the end of the night, and have already listened to it a few times since - loving it.

Although The Civil Wars were the major stars of the night for me, Milo Greene will definitely be on my list of new bands to follow. Have a listen and let me know what you think!

Stylish Bookworms: Audrey Hepburn

If I didn't already love the iconic Audrey Hepburn, I definitely would have after seeing this fabulous shot of her (above right). I stumbled upon it the other day via a hilariously great tumblr, appropriately titled "Awesome People Reading" (Insta-follow? Check). Of course, the librarian in me was smitten with the idea, and I obviously had to do a quick search for more shots of this gorgeous and classically chic lady taking a look in a book.

Not all of us avid readers are perfectly coiffed or laying on a pile of fancy gowns while perusing a favourite book like the lovely Audrey is here, but neither is a bad idea, obviously. Everyone knows that the perfect look is completed not with a fabulous accessory but with a good book (End shameless librarian's plug for reading here)!

LGFW: Sarah Stevenson Spring 2012

As I walked into Sarah Stevenson's presentation last Thursday, I felt very much like I imagine Mary Lennox might have, wandering into her Secret Garden. After seeing the beautiful prints last season, I was extremely excited to see what colours and textures would come across in her prints this time round, and I have to say I was not at all disappointed by the breathtakingly lovely floral prints, all of which were personally designed by Ms. Stevenson herself (learn more about her process in this video interview).

A nice touch that I loved was that these same prints were actually on display in frames around the room. I loved this idea! Especially getting to read the accompanying notecards which featured a bit more about the process and thought behind the prints used on the seriously lovely pieces around the room. I almost (okay, totally) wished I could take them home and hang them on my walls.

Overall, the shapes and silhouettes of the garments were simple, yet feminine and flattering, and were a perfect canvas for the exquisite floral prints used throughout.

It may be because lilacs are one of my favourite spring flowers (both the look and smell, divine!) but the above two looks that featured spot-on placement of a lilac inspired print were a couple of my favourites. Particularly the dress, since the x-shaped look of the print would be really flattering on, I think.

Prior to LG Fashion week I had never been to a presentation style show, as at our local fashion week here in Ottawa runway is the only option. A few of the shows I saw in Toronto were presented in this way, and I am glad that Sarah Stevenson's was one of them - namely because it allowed for a long time to take in the intricacy of the prints, get a good look at the garments from all sides and (my favourite) take lots of photos.

I can genuinely say that this was one of the only collections that I saw during my time in Toronto where I could see myself delightedly wearing every piece (even if such a prospect might be a bit over budget). While in most of the shows and presentations I saw one or two garments that really stood out, in Sarah Stevenson's presentation I wandered around the posing models in their pretty printed dresses again and again just enjoying the lovely colours and patterns.

I took this very simple (and amateur) video of the presentation to give you a feel for what it was like to be there in person, as well as to see the clothes in better detail. I took this using my phone so the quality is less than stellar, but hopefully it gives you a good impression of this lovely collection.

I will say that literally from the moment the presentation started until the models left their posts, I was admiring and snapping photos of each garment and look. Especially following the debacle of the night before, this show was such a pleasure (as was the designer herself, who went out of her way to prevent any such thing happening to me at her show). I can honestly say that even if this had been the only show I'd gotten to see, it would, without a doubt, have been worth the trip to Toronto.

Five Weeks of Favourites; Joe Fresh Giveaway

Music Monday - The Violet Hour

I know that I have posted before about The Civil Wars in a Music Monday post, but this one instrumental song of theirs is so pretty, I just had to share. Add to that my excitement about going to their concert in Montreal this upcoming weekend, and I feel like a second post featuring their tunes is allowed(Especially since the fanmade video is so pretty).

LGFW: Joe Fresh Spring 2012

The focal point of this post has to be - I loved this collection. There were so many pieces that reflected the key trends seen on the major runways for Spring 2012. Sporty, bright colourful pieces, with lots of bright-white dresses and garments walking the runways as well. What always makes me love Joe Fresh even more though, is that these are pieces I'll actually be able to afford when they arrive in stores.

To keep from posting every single look from the collection (even if I did pretty much love them all) - I've broken down a few of my favourite micro-trends from within the pieces that walked the runway.

White, white and more white! I loved these clean, crisp all-white looks, seen on many of the Spring runways from New York to Milan - and now Toronto. As much as I fear wearing white due to my inherently clumsy tendency to spill things on said white clothing, I can't resist the stark brightness of it. So perfect for summer days, especially with pops of colour - the bright orange ribbons or collars, and the pops of yellow on what appear to be super cute loafers (Wishlist? Check). P.S. Shout-out to the lovely Herieth Paul (third from right) - Ottawa's own top model.

Okay, I admit, this is menswear, but I LOVE these printed blazers! How unfair that they are only for the fellows! The prints and colours are amazing. As soon as I saw these looks on the gents strutting down the runway, I thought to myself - where is my version? Note - none of the ladies on the Joe Fresh runway wore blazers this cool. No lie, I may purchase from the mens section and have them tailored to fit so I can have these for my very own.

Yellow, lemon, citrine, goldenrod - whatever you want to call it, there were a number of mega-bright yellow pieces in various incarnations strolling down the Joe Fresh runway. I can't think of a more perfect colour for spring and summer than sunshine-y yellow, and I look forward to adding some of these (especially that awesome maxi skirt) to my wardrobe when the weather warms up again.

Another trend spotted on the Joe Fresh runway was the coloured collar. I love a basic white blouse in all its forms, but with a fresh pop of orange teal or black, it adds fun and interest to this classic wardrobe staple. I will be looking for these when they hit stores, I can tell you that.

I'm not sure if Mr. Mimran was wanting to pay homage to our friends in Finland, but the opening look to the show certainly made it seem that way, if you've ever happened to notice what the Finnish flag looks like, that is. In any case, the combination of bright blue and white popped up a number of times on the runway, and since blue is one of my favourite colours, of course I am a fan.

These micro-trends and many more great wearable pieces strolled the Joe Fresh runway, and I definitely loved the show and collection as a whole, even if my experience surrounding the Joe Fresh Show was less than stellar.

If you're ready for a bit of a rant about the events on Wednesday night, read on.

First, I will note that this debacle was the not the fault of the brand itself but rather was the fault the organizers of LG Fashion Week, who were responsible for ticket sales. I was standing in line with easily over a hundred others, and was in a decent spot, not right up front but not near the end either. I knew this would be a popular show so with ticket in hand I got there early.

After waiting and waiting with fellow hopeful show-goers, we noticed that after the Media, Sponsors and VIPs had been seated that the venue was looking particularly full, and wondered if there would be any seats left. Within minutes of the show starting, volunteers came around to tell everyone that after a mere 10 general admission ticket holders were let in, not one single other person in line would be able to see the show. Ten! Paid tickets, no show: seriously unimpressive. I mean, it seems pretty simple - if you sell tickets, and based on sales have an idea of how many potential seats there will need to be, make sure to have enough! Otherwise don't sell the tickets! Not rocket science, organizers, just fyi.

Needless to say, all of us went home disappointed. I wouldn't even have minded if Joe Fresh was a show that was only open to media and invited guests - as most fashion shows in major cities often are. In which case I would not have bought a ticket and happily would have watched the show via livestream from the comfort of home, or gone to spend time with friends in Toronto rather than wasting a whole evening waiting for a show I didn't get to see.

I have to say, it was a super disappointing end to an otherwise really great day spent at LG Fashion Week. I know no event is perfect, but I think this was a pretty gigantic oversight and faux-pas on the part of organizers, and could easily have been prevented. Hopefully this kind of thing will not be repeated next time round.

Thankfully, the shows on Thursday were so great that this disappointing debacle was not the lasting impression I had of LG Fashion week, and rekindled hope in me that it wasn't a total waste of time coming down from Ottawa. Look forward to a post on the Thursday shows coming up soon!

LGFW: (My) First Day at Toronto Fashion Week

On Wednesday morning I headed out bright and early on the train to Toronto to see some shows at LG Fashion Week. I got settled in at the Inn I was staying at, did a wee bit of shopping and then headed to the venue to pick up tickets and see the shows of the day.

I thought I might be a bit too late for the first show I wanted to see, but luckily I was just in the nick of time to see the presentation from Marie St. Pierre, a Montreal based designer showcasing her spring lineup. St. Pierre featured mostly easily flowing dresses with a very relaxed vibe in variations of black and white, with two major pops of colour in (my personal favourite) a floor-length red number as well as an emerald draped dress. Not too sure if I'll be going for the swim cap look this spring, but there were lots of easy wearable pieces among this collection.

Next up was Klaxon Howl, a menswear line that I was (for obvious reasons) a little less familiar with. Lucky for me I got bumped up to the seats normally set aside for Elle Canada since a number of the reserved media folk didn't make it to this show - but I wasn't complaining! I was able to get a few good shots of the looks as the fellows sauntered past. Mostly very well tailored pieces that I could actually picture some of the guys I know looking quite nice in.

As a last aside on this show - if you follow me on twitter, you'll know that there is one male model who seems to get cast in every runway show featuring men during this and past Toronto Fashion weeks - and I find him so creepy (see what I mean here)! I had to laugh because he was one of the gentlemen walking the runway in this show - you can sort of see him in this picture, he's the fellow with the long flowing hair. Oh dear. To his credit, far less creepy in this show than in others.

Next up was the presentation from Label. These are not actually my photos (these are from Fashion, below are from the FDCC FB Page), I was unable to get any good ones, namely because the show was set up like a runway show although there was no seating, so people crowded around trying to get a look and so I mostly peeked between heads and over shoulders to glimpse the garments. It wasn't until later when I looked through the lookbook pamphlet they handed us that I was really able to evaluate what I'd seen.

The colour palette was mostly soft - mauves and greys but also incorporated one of my favourites - teal. I particularly liked the maxi skirts, seen below in sheer and solid versions, although my favourite piece was probably the lone print dress.

The centre photo above is a strange one, because it combines one of my favourite pieces, the blouse, with one of my least favourites - those pants. Perhaps it is a personal taste thing but I can't imagine many women looking good in those super-skin-tight silver leggings. The collection overall though was very wearable. I thought perhaps that it didn't have the drama needed for a runway show and may have been better suited to a presentation style, but that's just me.

The last show I got to see was, wait for it, a rug show. That's right, floor coverings. I almost didn't go to this one, because I thought it seemed a bit of a strange idea and I'm not that enthusiastic about rugs in general, but I'm glad I went because it was definitely ... interesting. Essentially what happened was that the rugs produced by Korhani were turned into "wearable" outfits that could actually have runway presence rather than just being presented in a large frame (as some of them were around the venue).

It started off with a theme of travel and different cultures, from the desert to the beach and beyond, but just when we thought the show was over, all of a sudden we were transported to ... wonderland? A major switch to a totally different theme, and models came out in characters from Alice, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen and even Spades - like actual spades (all you could see of the models were spandex-clad legs and red heels). Quite a shift in mood to say the least, but Korhani certainly kept us on our toes - who knew rugs could be so exciting?

After a quick but enjoyable dinner with the fabulous Isabel of Hipster Musings - the last show of the night that I wanted to see - Joe Fresh, ended up being quite a debacle. You can expect a full post devoted to that collection (which I loved) and the story of a major misstep by organizers coming up very soon.

Silk Twist

These hand-dyed twisted silk bracelets have been on my my Etsy favourites list for a while. They are the handiwork of the delightful Danni, who not only has a stellar blog but also makes beautiful scarves and has now delved into bracelets, both of which you can purchase in her shop. Hopefully I will be making a whole "arm party" out of a stack of these bracelets before long.

I actually got to briefly meet this lovely lady while in Toronto for LG Fashion Week, and she is just as gorgeous and sweet in person. I was excited to hear that she's already dyed the custom made silk scarf that I will be giving away to a lucky reader in a couple of weeks, someone is going to be seriously happy, trust me - because her work is fantastic.

LGFW: Juma Spring 2012

I am heading to Toronto first thing tomorrow morning to catch a few shows at LG Fashion Week (most excited for Joe Fresh and Sarah Stevenson), but I had to share the amazing technicolour prints that were presented last night by brother and sister design duo Alia and Jamil and their eponymous line, Juma.

Unfortunately I couldn't sacrifice a whole week of work at the library to see all the fashion shows I would have liked to, and this time round I wasn't able to catch Juma live. Luckily for those of us that couldn't be there in person, the FDCC (Fashion Design Council of Canada) posted some fantastic photos of the Juma presentation on their facebook page.

There were some wildly bright and colourful prints that walked the runway in various incarnations, as well as a revival of a print and texture from their Fall collection although this time on a lighter grey background (a little easier for spring wear than fall's black). The easy flowing shapes of many of the garments made me think they would fall easily into the wardrobes of any model-off-duty.

Another look that caught my glasses-wearing eye were the crisp white frames perched on the noses of a few of the models. I have been on the hunt for new glasses and I must say I'm feeling more than a little inspired to try a snow-white pair to change things up.

I have consistently been impressed with the original prints from Juma, and the looks for spring were no exception. Although I have yet to add any Juma pieces to my wardrobe, there are certainly more than a few looks in this spring collection that have made it onto my wishlist.

And perhaps the best part of the Juma presentation? If you are a fan of what you saw, you can already shop the runway (albeit only a select few looks and accessories) via The Peacock Parade.

Nose in a Book

I stumbled upon this old image of Anita from 101 Dalmations via my tumblr feed not too long ago, and it seemed the unlikely inspiration for what turns out to be a perfect (and pretty on trend) fall look. She's got the Gucci Fall 2011-esque hat, the ubiquitous "nerdy" glasses, chic blouse with a tied scarf - although a tie-neck blouse would do nicely too. Overall, she is looking fabulously librarian-chic to start with, and to top it off? Her nose in a book. Love.

Needless to say, this perfect librarian-inspired look (Disney or otherwise) made its way onto my Biblio-style tumblr (Heads up - if you stumble across library or book theemed garments, editorials or other fabulousness, please do feel free to submit it!), and hopefully similarly library-chic items will be finding their way into my wardrobe sooner than later.

Ottawa Style by JB & JB

It isn't all that often that I post editorial images here on the blog, but this is one I have to share. The titular "JB & JB" are, in fact, the talented team (and power couple): Justyna B of Chameleonic and Joel Bedford. They were the Stylist/Art Director and Photographer (respectively) behind these shots.

They are regular contributors to the Ottawa Citizen's Style magazine - and it's easy to see why. These two are seriously talented (not to mention ridiculously nice), and I had the privilege of watching them work first-hand as I helped out on a couple of the shoots (by helping, I mean standing around doing odds and ends meanwhile being majorly impressed at the expertise of the two pros in action around me).

Justyna wrote the feature article for the Ottawa Citizen's Style magazine profiling the top models coming out of Ottawa's gencies, along with developing the accompanying editorial, featuring these same guys and gals in a variety of Ottawa locales. The above shot was taken in a local restaurant, and is from the first of two shoots I was present for. (You may note the lovely Herieth Paul standing out in this bunch - this girl is seriously a pro).

This very last shot was taken on the picturesque terrace of the Chateau Laurier. I must admit I am just a wee bit proud because my contribution to this photo is actually visible! When one too many models arrived to the shoot, an emergency outfit run was needed. I ran home, grabbed my beloved Michael Kors dress, and hurried back where Justyna expertly clipped the model into the dress (tent-sized on the model's teensy frame) and finished her off with a belt. The lovely lady sporting my frock by Mr. Kors is on the far right of the group at left.

It was definitely a great learning experience for me working with these two on this project. We had fabulous models and settings to work with, but I will say that Justyna and Joel seemed to me to be the real stars since they brought it all together to make for a pretty fantastic result. Thanks for having me along you two!

Thankful

It is Thanksgiving weekend (here in Canada at least), and although I often feel thankful for things and people in my life, it is always nice to have the reminder to really consider the blessings that I have. In the example of the above photo, some things I have thought to be thankful for are as follows:

In spite of the fact that I wasn't able to make the trip home to my beloved PEI to spend this holiday with my family, I've had a weekend full of happy times spent with friends. I hope all of you who are celebrating Thanksgiving (and even those of you who aren't) are having a wonderful weekend full of many things to be thankful for.

Slip Stitch

I had to share this video because I am so utterly inspired by the craft and time that goes into the gorgeous crocheted pieces from Helen Rödel, a Brazilian designer and artisan. I stumbled upon her designs via a knitting and crochet blog I follow (although I personally cannot crochet or knit) - One Sheepish Girl. I watched this video of Ms. Rödel's designs and was immediately struck and absolutely floored by how beautiful her work is.

When we did the cursory introductions to our fellow cohort members at the beginning of my Masters program, the vast majority of my fellow students noted how much they all seemed to like knitting and crochet. I chuckled then at the fulfillment of the Librarian stereotype - but after seeing the amazing things possible with crochet? I have to wonder if I might just pick up a crochet hook myself and see if I can learn a thing or two. That is, to hold me over till I can get to Brazil and pick up a piece from the talented Ms. Rödel.

Ottawa Fashion Week - Day 2

The second night of Ottawa Fashion Week continued with 7 more shows. I was lucky enough to snag front row seats for almost all of these shows and as such was much better able to get some photos without heads, arms or legs getting in the way.

First up was Illyria Design. Mostly simple dresses in shades of green and blue, I have to admit that the amount of struggling exhibited by numerous models in this show distracted me a lot from the clothes. The lady next to me nudged me and asked (in all seriousness) if the girls had ever walked before. There were a few pretty pieces, but some fit issues on a number of the girls had me wondering about the quality of the garments overall.

At Everyone Has a Dream by Karine Breton, shades of cream, lime and purple dominated the looks that walked the runway. There was an attempt at making this very ready-to-wear collection more avant-garde by adding somewhat awkward bat-like cape-poncho hybrids. I'm not sure it worked. There were a lot of floaty, sheer fabrics, and though there were some prettily flowing maxi skirts which I did like, I did also have some concerns about construction.

After the first two shows, I was hoping for something a bit more exciting, and we sure got it with Kania. From music, to show-stopping feathers adorning each model, to the dancing fun each model displayed walking down the runway, the attention of all showgoers was rapt. The models clearly felt fabulous and they looked great, even when you got past the amazing feathered head-pieces. There were cute dresses (I particularly liked the white number above) and some great separates - sequined pants = love. Designer Stacey Bafi-Yeboa came out to a standing ovation - the first of a few that happened during OFW. You can check out all of my photos on my facebook page.

Next up was the presentation from !Nu.I. I had seen their show at the last Ottawa Fashion week and so knew a little of what to expect. In this case, there was a lot of navajo-inspired print featured in many of the garments, as well as bright blue (which I love) and neon pink fringe accents which found their way onto the back of dresses, fringed bracelets, even onto a short-haired model as a faux-hawk of sorts. Some nice and wearable pieces in this collection, but also a couple of shudder moments, most notably a pair of diaper-like bloomers that my seat-mate and I shared an eye-roll over.

Spanish designer Alexis Reyna presented next, and I was interested to see his work since he was the first to include menswear in his show. The styling of the models was intense with body paint and major hair. Entitled Nairobi, this collection featured intriguing prints and interesting use of colour on for the most part fairly androgynous looks. Although some pieces were not necessarily what I personally might wear, I really enjoyed the show (minus one pair of unlined mesh shorts - eek). It was certainly one of the most thought-provoking collections of the night.

The second to last show of the evening came from Ralph Leroy. It opened up with a fire-dancer and major smoke, which provided a great ambiance but didn't mix well with the remnants of my bronchitis, but I digress. This collection was obviously very well made - the tailored pieces were excellent, particularly the menswear - wow! Definitely the standouts for me, especially the coral blazer above. There were some billowy flowing dresses with ombre fabrics that fluttered up and down the runway, finishing with a white frothy number with a train carried by shirtless male models (there was actual giggling on the part of many ladies in the front row, I will note).

My favourite collection of the night came from Montreal based designer Travis Taddeo. His use of gentle colours, easy shapes, and well tailored denim and leather pieces won me over pretty easily. Herieth Paul also walked this show, and looked absolutely fabulous in every look she sported on the runway. The two looks that have stuck in my mind from this collection as pieces I hope to get for myself are an amazing pair of denim culottes (third from left) and a perfectly flowing sheer top (second from left). One of my favourite collections of the night, hands down.

Ottawa Fashion Week Day 1

Yesterday was the first day of Ottawa Fashion Week, and needless to say, my excitement for three evenings filled with local fashion was pretty high. I took off straight from the library and headed over to the Convention Centre in downtown Ottawa, the new venue for the shows. First up were two collections I was very much looking forward to seeing - Birds of North America and Valérie Dumaine.

While waiting outside, I met up to a fellow blogger Melrose, who is such a sweetheart! We sat together for the first few shows, it was nice to chat with a friendly seat-mate about what was coming down the runway. First off, Birds of North America. This line is sold at local boutique Victoire, so I had some idea of what to expect. I was looking for pretty dresses and separates with a vintage flair, and was not disappointed. The papier maché masks and patches were a little odd, but when not distracted by the styling the pieces were pretty and eminently wearable.

Next up was a swimwear collection from Amber Watkins. I hadn't previously seen any of her work, and so was looking forward to seeing what style of suits she'd show. I really enjoyed the high waisted bikini bottoms and the vibrant colour choices (think royal blue, emerald green, pops of orange). They were styled up with lovely feather earrings from, I believe, Pica Jewelry, which added some definite glam to the suits as they strolled the runway. Valérie Dumaine is a Montreal designer who I've been following for a while now, having seen some of her pieces before at Victoire and on other Canadian bloggers. Hers was one of the shows I was most looking forward to seeing, since I hope to add a few of her pieces to my slowly growing wardrobe repertoire of Canadian designers. There were soft gentle colours and a lot of neutrals in Ms. Dumaine's Spring 2012 lineup, with easy, flowing shapes and lots of separates. As far as my own personal taste goes, this was one of the collections I could most easily see myself wearing. I've also posted the video of the finale walk for this collection on fb which you can check it out here.

After a short break between shows (I hurried over to Rideau Centre for a snack and some emergency foot first aid - my shoes for the evening absolutely destroyed my feet), it was time for the Micalla show. Micalla is a jewelry line based out of Ottawa, and I'd seen some of their pieces at the last Ottawa Fashion week I attended at the National Gallery.

The lovely Herieth Paul closed the show in an amazing sparkly piece (see the video of her closing walk here). I really enjoyed the show, but I have to say I might have preferred to see the collection shown as a presentation. It would have been much easier to see (and photograph) some of the more detailed pieces in that kind of setting. I am currently a big fan of statement necklaces and on that front, Micalla certainly did not disappoint. There were also some more dramatic pieces - see above - that were almost like vests comprised of chains and sparkling crystal that elicited a gasp or two from show attendees.

Another Montreal-based line, Anomal was up next. The colours and styles in this collection spoke a little more fall than spring-summer to me, but there were some lovely garments here and there. I wasn't such a huge fan of the major body-suits -- the poor models were showing off a lot of cheek, but managed to strut confidently nonetheless. I am hard pressed to say no to a sequin though, and the black dress above (second from right) was one of my favourites of the show, hands down. Along with some amazing wide-leg pants (above left).

The second to last show last night came from Simon Ekrelius, a London (UK) based designer who showed us what was by far the most avant-garde collection in the bunch. In spite of the more quirky (albeit interesting) plastic bubble-boy jacket and other plastic garments that walked the runway, there were a number of much more easily wearable pieces that I liked very much. Namely the dresses which featured interesting prints (read: arrows and lines) and unique fluid shapes. The collection was inspired by modern art and architecture of pre-WWII Germany, and Mr. Ekrelius certainly expressed that inspiration in an interesting and unique way.

The final show of the night was Rud by Rudsak, a Canadian line focused mainly on leather and outerwear. Local stylist and blogger Erica Wark joined the line-up (I believe she's also walking for Rachel Sin on Saturday) in stomping the runway. After the intriguing collection from Simon Ekrelius this was perhaps not quite as interesting, but there were some definitely some very wearable trenches and leather jackets that I'm sure will be big sellers for the line.

It was a crazy night of fashion, with time spent between shows chatting with fellow bloggers and members of the media, snapping photos, and seeing some of Ottawa's most fashionable proving that there are at least a few stylish people in this city, in spite of what some may say.

Mustard & Pomegranate

Two of the colours that I am absolutely loving for fall are mustard-y yellows and dark burgundy. Although this particular deep shade of red is often referred to as ox-blood, I chose the somewhat happier name of pomegranate. There was so much colour all over the runways for fall, and these are just two of many that I am loving (see also cobalt blue, emerald green, orange, fuschia... etc). However, it is to deep yellows and maroons that I consistently find myself drawn time and again when the weather gets cooler. Perhaps it has something to do with the similarly coloured changing fall leaves, but either way, you'll be sure to see both of these colours cropping up in my fall wardrobe.

I absolutely love music from Bon Iver, so that is partially why I am sharing this video with you today. However, more than just the music (which is, itself, fantastic) is this absolutely breathtakingly beautiful music video. I watched it transfixed and as such, had to share. The landscapes alone! Amazing.

Fall Looks Fresh

When I watched the Fall 2011 collection from Joe Fresh walk the runway via livestream this spring, there were a ton of pieces that I could not wait to get my hands on. As the fall collection is finally finding its way into stores, I am looking forward to stocking my fall wardrobe with some of the items from their lookbook.

I picked up the quilted denim skirt (above) the last time I went shopping at one of the Ottawa Joe Fresh locations with my friend Catherine and immediately knew that was one item I absolutely would be going back for, along with the adorable tweed dress you can see jumping into the air in the first collage. And the gold brogues? I really can't say no.

I was disappointed to see that a few of my favourite items from the runway were visibly absent from the Joe Fresh Fall lookbook - namely, the bright orange neoprene-esque pencil skirt and brightly coloured coats (I would love one in every colour, if I'm honest) with their pretty little floral minis. I sent an imploring tweet to @JoeFresh inquiring about this and they were kind enough to reply that these pieces will be available in "select locations" which likely means - Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and most likely the new flagship on 5th Avenue, NYC.

So this Ottawa gal will have to hoof it (or actually hop a train) to Montreal to snag these last few items. But since I am already planning to head there in a few weeks to check out a concert from one of my previous Music Monday features - The Civil Wars, I am hoping to get a chance to do a little shopping while I'm there.

Herieth Takes NY

You may have seen her on the cover of Elle Canada, wandering through the pages of Italian Vogue in a Meisel editorial, or perhaps dancing her way through a Calvin Klein commercial, but most recently Herieth Paul was stomping down some major runways at New York Fashion Week. Although hailing originally from Tanzania, Herieth Paul is now based in Ottawa and I have to admit I was pleased to see this young local lady doing so fabulously well.

I briefly met Herieth while assisting the fabulously talented fashion and photography team of Justyna (stylist & blogger extraordinaire) and Joel (take a peek at his amazing photos) at a shoot they were working on for the Style magazine that comes out a couple of times per year in the Ottawa Citizen. It was a group shot featuring some top Ottawa models - of which Herieth most certainly is one. She was super professional and an absolute stunner in person - it makes total sense to me why Miss Paul was all over the runways in New York this season. I have no doubt we'll be seeing more of her, and soon.

We're still in the midst of the madness that is New York Fashion Week, and although I'm far away, the amazing array of fresh trends, both in terms of garments and beauty has me reeling through collection after collection on The Cut and Style.com combing through the looks for highlights.

One of my favourite things is to try to find the looks that I might be able to recreate, either through styling up a similar-to-runway outfit or testing out a new hairstyle or beauty trick. Imagine my surprise when strolling down the runway at Preen, I see a hairstyle that, due to my current shorter tresses, I have been sporting very frequently over the past few months. Seriously, it's to the point that most of my co-workers are probably sick of seeing it. That being said, perhaps it is worth a first ever hairstyle tutorial on the blog?

I will note that my version is a little less perfect-looking than this fabulously sleek style, but the essentials of the style are almost exactly the same.

Warby Parker at the Library

I have long been a fan of eyewear brand Warby Parker for so many reasons - being able to try on their glasses at home (crucial for those of us who are every day wearers), their commitment to providing glasses for those in need, as well as their clearly stylish and wallet friendly frame options. Trust me, as someone who has worn glasses since grade 3, stylish AND affordable glasses are seriously hard to come by.

All this to say - if I didn't love the Warby Parker folks enough already, they decided to up their Rebecca brownie-points by holding their New York Fashion Week presentation in... where else? The New York Public Library. Oh. My. Gosh. Could this have been a more perfect idea? Models and friends of the brand were seated sporadically around the quiet study area of the library, each holding books with pretty blue covers featuring the title matching the spectacles on his or her face. Pure Genius, in my humble opinion.

The NYPL was the perfect setting for the presentation - not only because the frames from Warby Parker are absolutely, utterly, librarian-chic (And I should know!), but also because they are using the library as what it is - a public cultural space for anyone to use!

From the description of the presentation that I initially stumbled upon at Racked, Ms. Lo noted that some of the NYPL staff seemed a bit uneasy about this guerrilla style presentation, which surprised me. I currently work in a special library that isn't open to the public, but I know from my experience from working in public libraries that this is exactly the kind of thing that librarians love! In one of the public libraries I worked at, we consistently had presentations from artists and photographers, so a fashion presentation certainly wouldn't have been out of the question.

In any case, I was super impressed by the new and spectacular spectacles themselves (especially the clear "Fillmore" frames - see top photo, right), and can't wait to snap a few of them up for myself via Warby Parker's site and stage a library fashion moment of my own.

Music Monday - Birdy

I'm sure by now most of you have heard this cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" by Birdy, a young and seriously talented young English lady, but I have to share it namely because I've been listening to it non-stop this past week. Would it be terrible to say that I almost enjoy her version more than Bon Iver's original? I hope not.

I think because I am a pianist myself, I am always drawn to singers and musicians who keep it simple with just vocals and a piano. That is partially what I like so much about these songs from Birdy, although part of her allure is that ethereal and lovely voice she's got. Such a talent for such a young artist.

What's in a Word

I don't know if any of you are as avid readers of Fashion Magazine's site as I am, but one feature I have been loving all summer is Sarah Nicole Prickett's Word of the Day. Firstly, I am a word nerd, as anyone who knows me will definitely agree (Former English major,current Librarian? It was fated from the start) so it only makes sense that this is one of my top summer reads.

Secondly, each column is brilliant. Sometimes tongue-in-cheek or just plain hilarious. I often find myself laughing out loud at how spot-on her comments are, particularly these scathing comments on Tyra Banks' new novel (I peeped the excerpt on Barnes & Noble out of morbid curiousity, it is worse than I ever could have imagined).

Perhaps my favourite part of these word-related columns, however, have nothing to do clever wordplay but instead, are the featured illustrations by artist and photographer Lewis Mirrett. They are boldly colourful and vibrant, and if Ms. Prickett's witticisms alone weren't enough to keep me coming back, Mirrett's artwork certainly would.

Looking Forward

If you've noticed that things have been quiet around here lately, it is probably because changes are brewing here at Along the Shore. I'm working towards a re-launch of the blog, hopefully sometime in September if everything comes together as I've been hoping.

I have some exciting things to unveil, namely a new name, design, and layout - which I cannot wait to share with you all (I'm working with the lovely Savannah at MaieDae, who is doing some fabulous design work, I have to say).

In addition to some of the things you've gotten used to seeing here there will be a number of new features that I am looking forward to bringing your way. A bit of old, a bit of new, which will hopefully translate to a bigger, better and more inspiring version of everything that Along the Shore has been thus far.

Until it all goes live, I will be continuing to post here, but a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to make this relaunch happen, so they may be a bit more infrequent than usual.

P.S. I have some seriously great giveaways planned for the upcoming big reveal, so stay tuned here and on twitter for all the updates!

If not for the $300 price tag on these beauties, I'd be snapping them up quick as you please. As it stands now, I am happy to admire them from afar.

Rodarte x Opening Ceremony

I just stumbled onto the new lookbook featuring Rodarte's latest line for Opening Ceremony (peep the whole thing via their fb page here). Of course there are a number of beautiful pieces, as anyone could hope to expect from the Mulleavy ladies, but I particularly enjoy how they have style and shot this lookbook.

I feel like they've taken a note or two from Mary Katrantzou's interior prints from Spring 2011, but they`ve given it enough of their own spin that it still feels fresh, for the most part, anyway. I admittedly love the soft gentle colours used for this latest collaboration, although it does seem a little spring-y for an October release (although there are a number of black and leather pieces too).

I doubt it will be long before we start spotting some of these pretty pieces in editorials and street style sites. What are your thoughts on this latest Rodarte x OC collaboration? Yay or nay?

The other day I stumbled upon this illustrated column by talented artist, Wendy MacNaughton as published on the Rumpus (see the full column here) about public libraries. Although the library I currently work in is not open to the public, I spent a couple of years working in public libraries both in NB while I was an undergrad as well as in my home province of PEI before moving to Ottawa.

While MacNaughton is illustrating the life of the San Francisco Public Library, her observations are fairly representative of libraries in most cities and towns. I certainly found myself relating to pretty much everything she included. Not to mention, her illustrations are absolutely gorgeous.

Colourful Bloom

Those of you outside of Ontario may not yet be familiar with YYZ, a new online fashion and luxury magazine based out of Toronto, but let me just say, it is absolutely worth checking out (as is their accompanying blog).

I find myself going back again and again to this beautiful editorial, "Colourful Bloom", from their second issue. I am a sucker for millinery of any kind, and the stunning chapeaux, sculptural tulle and ethereal beauty make a mesmerizing story.

It is the kind of editorial that makes me wish I had a hard copy instead of an electronic one. These are the kind of editorial photos that I would happily frame and display as artwork on my walls.

Pack All Your Troubles

Whatever you may call them - kitbag, backpack, rucksack, knapsack, or packsack (I go for kitbag myself), these bags have been resurfacing with a vengeance lately, with everyone from Alexander Wang to Marc Jacobs to Prada fashioning their own versions.

I feel like the last time anyone was really talking about kitbags with any interest was Bianca in 10 Things I Hate About You:

Bianca: There's a difference between like and love. Because, I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack.
Chastity: But I love my Skechers.
Bianca: That's because you don't have a Prada backpack.

Oh 90's style, you are back aren't you?

In any case, I thought I would share a few of the kitbags currently on my radar with you all. There are so many out right now, the choices are endless. My four current favourites (clockwise starting top left) are from Topshop, Asos, Longchamp, and Modcloth.

Music Monday - Jenn Grant

For this installment of Music Monday, I thought I would introduce another Maritime artist (okay, I do have a bit of a bias, being an East coast girl myself), the lovely and seriously talented Jenn Grant. You may have noticed her performing on Parliament Hill this past Canada Day, or as a special musical guest on the Vinyl Café, if you are a fan of Stuart McLean's show, like I am.

One of my favourites Jenn Grant tunes is her song "Dreamer" (video above). You might recognize it since it happens to be the title opener for the CBC Show, Heartland (I am a little embarassed to admit, I love it. Anything with horses, I am sold).

Two of these three videos are from a special set of recordings called Southern Souls, where various musicians performed and recorded some of their tunes in a locale of their choosing. I love the authentic feeling (in addition to the lovely tunes) of these videos and had to share.

Born on PEI (Win!) but currently hailing from Nova Scotia, Jenn Grant is starting to really come into her own in the world of Canadian music, and I for one am glad. I personally love her dreamy folky sound and am pleased to see a fellow Maritimer making it. Hope you enjoy her tunes as much as I do!

Ice Pop Parade

It is officially the hottest day on record here in Ottawa, the humidex upped the already scorching temperature to a sweltering 46C (about 115 Fahrenheit). Since my apartment does not have air conditioning I am trying various strategies to beat the heat, some of which include icy cold baths, towel wrapped plastic baggies full of ice cubes on my forehead and lots of fans, but possibly my favourite remedy is the simple popsicle.

1. Firecracker Ice Pops 2 Sunshine Pops 3 Vanilla Pudding Pops

I stocked up on some boxes of ice pops at the grocery store a couple of weeks ago when they were on sale and today I could not be more grateful to my forward-thinking self. While my lovely sister was visiting though, I bought myself an ice pop mold and have started seeking out recipes, since I feel like homemade versions would be much tastier, and very probably much healthier too (at least in some cases).

4. Striped Ice Pops 5. Raspberry-Yogurt Ice Pops 6. Fruit Salad Pops

I've stumbled upon a number of fantastically frosty ideas on various blogs and recipe sites. I thought I would share a few of the very most tempting looking ones (at least in my opinion) with you all. I have been planning to post on pops for a while now, but how apt that I happen to be finally posting on the hottest day, actually ever (well, according to the records anyway) in Ottawa.

Island Snapshots

I thought I would share a few snapshots with you that I took while home on PEI. I was home for a pretty quick visit to my lovely island, and spent most of it playing with my too cute nephew, meeting my newest niece for the first time, and visiting with my family.

The cooler windy days at home were a refreshing change from the unending heat I came back to today in Ottawa. I revelled in wading with a squealingly happy nephew in the unusually (for July anyway) cold water off the North shore by our cottage, taking in the smell of the salt in the air, chats with my parents on the deck in the evenings, traipsing around the island with my mom and along the way snapping a few photos here and there to send to a lovely italian lady, watching fireflies flutter through the trees, and generally taking in as much island as I could during my short weekend visit. Love.

The Bookbinder

I am unabashedly, wholeheartedly, in love with these book-inspired heels from Anthropologie (kindly pointed out to me by my friend and fellow librarian, Lindsey). The appropriately named "Bookbinder Heel" itself actually looks like the spine of a book, happily resting on a shelf. This, clearly, is more than enough to set my little librarian heart a-swooning.

These beauties have officially made it onto my must-buy list. Piggy bank? Prepare to be raided.

Apples to Apples

Thanks to Stella and Miuccia I have been searching for the perfect fruit themed accessories for some time, and have been trawling etsy for ages looking for something that is cute without kitsch. I think I finally succeeded today, when stumbling upon these vintage enameled beauties, above from Rona Horn. I waded through what seemed like endless Peanuts and other comic-themed pendants and earrings and all but gave up hope before seeing these little gems.

I feel a little indulgent buying all three. I am leaning towards the apples, although the watermelons have struck my fancy as well.

Once Upon a December

As I took an initial look through the beautiful gowns, dresses and gilded confections strolling down the Valentino Couture runway, I was reminded of this tune from, oddly enough, the old animated movie, Anastasia. A movie that I have never actually seen, but did enjoy the music from the soundtrack.

Since The Cut doesn't offer a review, I took a look at the coverage over at Style.com to learn more about the inspiration behind the collection. Imagine my surprise when I come to find that the actual mood board was indeed comprised of "haunting pictures of the last tsar's family and their lost world". For those of you who don't know, that is precisely what the film Anastasia is about.

All references aside, this was one seriously beautiful collection. From demure velvet gowns with nod to the past, to pristine white capes, to fluttering soft layers, to intricately worked beading, embroidery and crystal details, this was, in my humble opinion, a masterful and utterly magical collection.

Valentino succeeded in fulfilling my expectations of breathtaking haute couture, and is, hands down, my favourite of all the couture shows thus far (although Givenchy's 10 piece collection is a strong runner-up).

A Royal Visit

Today the moment I have been looking forward to for ages finally happened! This morning I got up and got ready to walk over to Rideau Hall (although I probably should've bussed, it was SUCH a long walk!) and waited in line in order to enter the grounds of Rideau Hall at one o'clock with, at that time, about 150 or so fellow Royal watchers hoping to see TRH William and Catherine on the first day of their visit to Canada. I struggled to find a good spot to watch the action, but finally ended up along the safety barrier tucked between a few other girls who kindly let me squeeze in. Thank goodness, because I had been looking forward to snapping some photos and seeing these two for weeks.

We waited along with constantly growing crowds for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to arrive. People just kept on coming - and apparently there were actually thousands of people waiting to see the Royal couple as they arrived. It turned out that I was at the very spot where they got out of their vehicle and greeted the Governor General and his wife (the couple in the first & second photo for those of you who don't recognize them) as well as our Prime Minister and his wife. Kate stopped to say hello to the crowd literally right across from me, I was bemoaning the fact that I hadn't chosen to stand on that side, since I might've actually gotten to meet her!

I have to say, it was an absolute thrill for me to get to see them, since many others didn't have as close a look as I did. There were rows and rows of people behind me, who probably didn't get to see much of anything let alone snap pictures. Prince William was much taller than I had expected, and Kate is (not surprisingly) absolutely stunning in person. Obviously she is really photogenic, but she is just perfectly lovely in person, especially in her beautiful Erdem dress (I predicted an Erdem look = win). She is absolutely flawless, and totally chic.

A fellow Ottawa resident and photographer extraordinaire, Arne Berg (or OttawaArne as he is known on twitter), arrived seriously early this morning in order to get the best chance at a prime spot by the stage, and as such, he was able to get some seriously fantastic photos. Luckily for me, he was kind enough to share the above photo that he snapped of HRH Catherine waving to onlookers.

Something that I thought was really nice about the visit so far, having heard reports from their visit to Ottawa's War Memorial, as well as witnessing them first hand at Rideau Hall, was their enthusiasm and willingness to interact with the public. Pretty impressive for a probably extremely jet-lagged pair. I am hoping to catch them again tomorrow as they celebrate Canada Day here in the Nation's Capital!

I am looking forward to seeing the rest of Kate's wardrobe choices during the rest of this trip, and will likely do a roundup at some point featuring my favourites. So far she is 2 for 2, having sported two Canadian labels so far, and this Erdem from Resort 2012 (that I actually posted here) is just gorgeous. Fashion icon in the making, for sure.

The Elusive Dress

This Joe Fresh dress has been on my mind since I saw it strut down the Spring 2011 runway. I have been absolutely, utterly, dying to have it, and the closest location that (hopefully) is supposed to carry it is in Montreal. A relatively short and inexpensive train trip away, perhaps, but not exactly one of my regular stops.

It might just have to become one though, especially since I just got the above Tory Burch wedges via Net-a-Porter during their amazing sale - I got just shy of $100 off the original price - score! Less expensive than a pair from Aldo, they are now mine. And would they not look perfect with that white dress of awesomeness? The tote and accessories would essentially make this ensemble my summer uniform, were I to have all of them (alas, Kate Spade and Prada are currently out of my price range). I am hoping to make at least part of it happen, and share it with all of you in an outfit post.

By the way - the winner of my Ruche $25 giveaway is Virginia! As for those of you who haven't perhaps won in a while (or at all yet!) please do keep an eye out. I have big plans for this summer, and giveaways play a large roll in them. You will have your chance, I promise!

Keeping Time

I stumbled onto the blog of Swedish photographer Hilda Grahnat yesterday while browsing some of my usual blog favourites. In addition to her lovely photography, Hilda also had a button to a small blog-shop where she sells homemade book-clocks out of previously loved vintage books.

Being the somewhat dorky librarian that I am, I was immediately intrigued by and enamoured with this idea, especially since the books she chose have such interesting and artistic covers. I love books in general (obviously!) and also have a near-obsessive affinity for other objects masquerading as books (i.e. clutches or totes), so naturally I was drawn to these fabulous little clocks.

The likelihood that I will be purchasing one, however, slightly slimmer. Why order something from Europe when I could potentially make it myself? With the plethora of homemade clocks on Etsy, it can't be that difficult? Or at least I hope not. In any case, I will be prowling the shelves of used bookstores around Ottawa to find a worthy candidate for my DIY version.

Forever Friends

An accessory trend that has been cropping up all over the place lately from street-style spottings to offerings from high-end designers (Proenza Schouler and Marni, for example) are some seriously DIY-able accessories - friendship bracelets.

Be they the traditional knotted embroidery floss (below) variety you might recall from your days as either a summer camp counsellor or camper (I know I made and traded my fair share in my day, seed-bead bracelets (above), or the less traditional Proenza-esque cords, these are certainly something you could make yourself (see Andy's sweet DIY idea here).

If you want your own arm party full of trendy bracelets, you certainly don't need to shell out 100-200 dollars for a designer version. This is one knock-off that is well worth trying on your own. Cord, beads, embroidery floss and any other supplies you might need will only run you a few bucks at your local craft supply store, and the results look exactly the same as the (ridiculously) high-priced designer versions.

Between you and me? If you don't already have the steps to making these bracelets engraved in your memory from childhood summer days, pick up one of any books (like the one above), check out some youtube tutorials or any number of instructional websites. If you do, you'll be making some seriously sweet arm candy for yourself (without dropping too many dollars) in no time.

Music Monday: Brooke Fraser

For Christmas my lovely sister Rose got me "Flags" the latest album from New Zealand songstress Brooke Fraser I hadn't previously heard of her or her music, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed her songs, and folky lyrical style. I guess that goes to show that my sis has a pretty good idea of the music I like!

I have been listening to these two tunes, pretty much on repeat lately, and dancing and singing around my apartment, so I thought I would share them with you all for this instalment of Music Monday. Her videos are very whimsical and playful, in addition to featuring some seriously good tunes. Hope you enjoy!

Oh Dear Megan

If you know me at all, you know that sustainable, re-used, recycled items that are turned into something beautiful are always high on my list. I also love simple accessories lately, and these necklaces from Oh Dear Megan fit the bill on all counts.

Made from recycled glass, each of her pretty, colourful beads is handmade and unique in its own right. I also love that these bold baubles are strung so simply on a delicate gold chain. There is just something so lovely about that, in my humble opinion.

Timeless Beauty

The latest Resort collections for 2012 are out and one of my very favourites (as he almost always is in any season) was the presentation from Erdem. It was full of classic, beautiful pieces that would be at home in any woman's closet, old or young. There is consistently a timeless quality to the work of Mr. Moralioglu, in addition to his beautiful prints that I always love.

I also loved how the lookbook itself told a story, or at least hinted at one. I found myself wondering what model Guinevere Van Seenus was thinking as she looked over her shoulder.

According to the lucky folks at Style.com who got to see the mood board that served as inspiration for this collection (to be a fly on that wall!), a few classic silver-screen sirens were Moralioglu's muses for his Resort presentation - Tippi Hedron, Eva Marie Saint and Romy Schneider, most notably. As I looked through photos of these three ladies, I could certainly see the appeal - each has such classic beauty and fantastically inspiring style.

Erdem was going for "eerily composed" in these looks - and there certainly a feeling of mystery and allure in the garments themselves as well as the impeccably shot lookbook, and it's the kind of feeling that any woman, old or young, could definitely appreciate. This is definitely one of my frontrunners for favourites in the Resort collections so far, second only perhaps to Oscar with his paper hats.
